Y-Hope Foundation FAQ's
- What does the “Y” stand for?
Initially, the “Y” was chosen to represent the identity of the primary founder, Yvonne E. Clarke, without actually using her given name. In early discussions about the Y-hope mission it was noted that the “Y” could also represent the spiritual aspect of the organization as it has connotations of Yahweh, the Old Testament name for God. Presently, we make frequent mention of the three main programs of the Y-Hope Foundation as symbolized by the three branches of the “Y”. They are Seeds of Hope , Make–Over for Hope , and Make-Over for the Cure .
- How is Y-Hope Foundation a spiritually-based organization?
Y-Hope recognizes the spiritual component of the healing process. In this, we have chosen to embrace a woman's spirituality and include this aspect in our holistic approach in addressing women's needs. We support the positive influences of prayer while not endorsing any one particular religion or denomination.
- What is the significance of the colors blue and yellow?
The founders of Y-Hope Foundation chose the colors blue and yellow with great care. As purveyors of color we recognize that it has a powerful effect on human emotion. Blue is seen as a universal color with messages of eternity, serenity, and health. It is associated with the sky and water, elements of dependability and constancy. Yellow is viewed as the color of wisdom and light. It is associated with the sun, our source of light. Both colors are positive and have strong ties to themes of spirituality.
- Does the tulip motif mean anything?
The symbolism of the tulip is commonly denoted as love. The yellow tulip is thought to recognize the sunshine of our smiles. In the Y-Hope Foundation logo the bud of the tulip is shown facing the ”Y” to represent the light being shown upon the three programs of the Foundation and the connecting vine is the hope each volunteer gives to the lives of the people she touches.

We do, however, support like minded organizations in the form of joint programs or rechannelled donations which give direct support or raise research money for women's diseases such as—but not limited to—cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and HIV/AIDS.
- Can anyone join the Y-hope Foundation organization?
Yes. There are two capacities in which interested parties may consider:
Board of Directors - as a candidate for the Board of Directors, you will need to submit an application in letter form to the office address, explaining why you would like to be on the Board, stating your qualifications, and in what capacity you would like to serve. The existing Board will then consider and evaluate your application. You may be voted in based on your experience, talent, and goals for Y-Hope Foundation. Volunteer - as a volunteer you can register by mail or online at info@yhopefoundation.org . If you state in what capacity you would like to serve we will direct you to the appropriate department. Volunteers are always needed. Serving as a volunteer will be for as long as you like, providing you follow the guidelines of Y-Hope Foundation policy
- Are there fees involved?
Currently, as a volunteer there are no required fees. However, should you be interested in volunteering your services as a make-up artist, cosmetologist, or massage therapist with Make-Over for Hope you will be required to go through our training program. The goal of the program is to align each volunteer with the foundation's philosophy so as to project a uniform public image. Each training session is 4-6 hours in length and is given by invitation.
- How is Y-Hope supported?
As a non-profit organization we are supported financially by donations from individuals and organizations. We are also supported with collateral from various cosmetic companies. Financial contributions may be mailed to the Y-Hope Foundation office, made payable to Y-Hope Foundation.
